About Hairi Cipta
Hairi Cipta is a lecturer and researcher at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
He received his B.Sc. in Forestry from UGM in 2014, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Forest Science from Kyoto University in Japan in 2018 and 2023, respectively. After completing his Ph.D., Hairi joined the Laboratory of Wood Formation and Quality Improvement at Faculty of Forestry UGM, where he is currently a lecturer and researcher.
During his B.Sc. studies, Hairi's thesis investigated the wood anatomy of a fast-growing tree, Falcataria moluccana, that had been infected with gall rust disease. After graduating, Hairi pursued his M.Agr. and Dr. degrees at Kyoto University. His research during this time focused on the application of X-ray computed tomography (CT) to gain a better understanding of wood anatomy. His work in this area has been published in several peer-reviewed journals (see more in publication).
Hairi received several awards for his research and activities, including the Oral Presentation Award at the 9th PRWAC in Bali (2017), the Poster Presentation Award at the 67th Annual Meeting of JWRS in Fukuoka (2017), and the Second Prize for the Logo Mark Competition of the Faculty and Graduate School of Agriculture at Kyoto University (2017).
Hairi's research interests:
Wood anatomy and identification
Computed tomography imaging for wood analysis
Relationship between wood structure and environment
Image analysis combined with machine learning
Examination of wood cultural artifacts
Scanning electron microscopy imaging
These research interests are all related to the study of wood and its properties. Hairi's work is helping to improve our understanding of wood, which could lead to new and innovative ways to use this valuable resource.
